COLOR VISION
MONET, SEURAT AND ROTHKO

Monet, Claude (1891) Haystack, Morning Snow Effect (Meule, Effet de Neige, le Matin). Oil on canvas, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Seurat, Georges (1886-1888) Poseuses Oil on canvas. Barnes Foundation, Merion, Pennsylvania.

The models are painted in the artist's studio in front of his monumental painting Un dimanche d’été à la Grande Jatte. Seurat's pointillism incorporated the 19th Century color theory of Rood and Chevreul. Miniscule areas of bright complimentary colors are juxtaposed in very close proximity to create a vibrant sensation in the eye of the beholder.
