Homo discens is the Latin name for “man the learner.”
The invention of a faux species name based on the genus Homo is a well-established literary conceit. Homo unius libri, (man of one book) is quite a famous example.
It is self evident that learning is a life-sustaining necessity for human beings. Accordingly, the Homo discens epithet merits a place alongside Homo faber (man the maker) and Homo ludens (man the player).
