BRIDGEMAN’S SCIENTIFIC METHOD
AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE
Percy Bridgeman, won the 1948 Nobel Prize in physics “for the invention of an apparatus to produce extremely high pressures, and for the discoveries he made therewith in the field of high pressure physics.” Bridgeman’s memorable encapsulation of what scientists actually do is quoted in Wilson (1998: 61):

The scientific method is doing your damnedest, no hold barred!
